ACOUSTIC WARNING SYSTEM IN ELECTRIC VEHICLES MANDATORY Since July 1, 2019 it is mandatory to build in an acoustic warning system in electric vehicles. This decision is a result of new EU legislation. It requires that the Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) be installed in newly registered hybrid, electric and fuel cell vehicles - including trucks and buses - for the protection of other road users. In the EU, the warning sound is mandatory up to a speed of 20 km/h. The legislation describes in great detail how an AVAS warning may and may not sound. This applies, for example, to the minimum and maximum noise production, and to certain noise criteria.

LARGEST ORDER FOR VOLVO INTERCITY COACHES IN ABU DHABI The Abu Dhabi Department of Transport (DoT) has ordered 168 chassis for intercity coaches from Volvo Buses and Famco Al Futtaim Auto & Machinery Co (Famco) through the city’s operators. The chassis order is the largest to date in Abu Dhabi for Volvo. The buses will be bodied with the Castrosua Magnus E. Deliveries are planned for Q4 2019 to Q4 2020.

ACEA AND UITP WARN ABOUT THE LACK OF BUS CHARGING AND REFUELLING INFRASTRUCTURE The automobile industry and the public transport sector are calling on EU member states to step up investments in much-needed infrastructure for charging and refuelling alternatively-powered buses. The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) and the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) issued this joint call following the Council of the European Union’s recent adoption of the Clean Vehicles Directive.
