THE IVECO BUS AUTONOMOUS BUS PROJECT STARTS EARLY 2021 Initiated in 2017, the STAR project, Rapid Autonomous Transport System, which aims to develop the first autonomous bus, capable of operating under conditions similar to a real exploitation, should give rise to a prototype early 2021. The objective is to have a
12 meter bus, able to accommodate a hundred passengers in conditions optimum safety, security and comfort, to achieve a speed of up to 40 km/h, all without driver.

SCANIA'S NXT, A CONCEPT “MANY PURPOSE” VEHICLE Scania showed a new battery electric self-driving urban concept vehicle in Stockholm this week: the NXT. Being at a public transport fair this vehicle is designed as a bus, but the idea at Scania is to have one vehicle suitable for many purposes: from ferrying commuters to and from work in mornings and evenings, delivering goods during the day and collecting refuse at night.

YUTONG 5G AUTONOMOUS BUS COMPLETES TRIAL ON PUBLIC ROAD On the World Telecommunication Day, May 17, the Henan provincial government (China) launched a 5G+ demonstration project in which Chinese bus manufacturer Yutong participated with the 5G Intelligent Public Transport project. On the public road of the Intelligent Island, the Yutong L4 autonomous bus completed a trial period, without steering wheel and console screen. Yutong says this autonomous bus is a key step on the road to true autonomous driving.

UK’S FIRST FULL-SIZED AUTONOMOUS BUS BEGAN TRIALS The UK’s first full-sized autonomous bus is now being trialled in Manchester Sharston bus depot. The ground-breaking project – involving a 11.5m ADL Enviro200 single-decker – is part of a programme being delivered by transport operator Stagecoach in partnership with bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) and technology company Fusion Processing.
