Mellor makes a return to Bus World with a new vehicle for a new market
Mellor is the UK's leading manufacturer of innovative and accessible low floor buses. 2019 sees the company making its second visit to Bus World where it will be launching a new product on stand 205 in hall 2, designed specifically for the demand responsive market (DRT).
In recognition that DRT in the broader context of mass transit has fallen short of its potential, this new addition to the Mellor range will be the first of a planned series of products the company hopes will address this issue.
Mellor believes that the benefits of easy access, coupled with a passenger space honed to suit the needs of today’s travellers are an important part of the success of DRT projects.
John Randerson, Mellor’s managing director, said: “We are pleased to be returning to Bus World this year and to showcase our latest product ranges which are the result of a number of years of strategic forward thinking, investment, innovative product design and development with high quality manufacturing.
“This new offering will be a completely new experience from Mellor and is designed to meet the demands of emerging route planning technology, together with key aspirations mapped out in most international future transport strategies, efficiency, flexibility and to be as environmentally friendly as possible.”
Sales of Mellor’s low platform small bus designs have reached record levels and the company puts this down to the experience gained working with operators and passengers for almost 60 years and an ongoing philosophy that size appropriate buses are the best way forward.
Visitors to the stand will also be able to see the latest version of Mellor’s all electric bus, the Orion E. First launched in 2017, the Orion E is the world’s first zero emission, completely low floor small bus designed to operate effectively in both the commercial bus market and parallel services.
Mellor’s engineers have tested some exciting advancements in electric vehicle technology, specifically concerning battery performance, drivetrains and charging systems. Successful durability testing also ensures operator investment will be rewarded with a lifetime of reliable ownership.
Also on show is Mellor’s Strata low floor, Mercedes Sprinter based bus which offers high passenger capacity and excellent life costs for operators. With 2+2 seating, the large low floor section can accommodate up to two wheelchairs.
Like all Mellor buses, the Strata is fully equipped for fare stage bus work, with destination displays, a rapid sliding entrance door, a ticket machine platform, Wi-Fi and USB points. Mellor are committed to designing low floor buses that offer passengers all of these features in exactly the same way larger vehicles do.
Engineered with accessibility in mind, the Strata range offers a variety of internal layout configurations to accommodate the needs of all passengers regardless of mobility. It offers superior suitability to coach and bus operators thanks to its compact build and weight, allowing it to operate in areas where larger vehicles would be inhibited.
Mellor is one of the industry’s longest established, leading manufacturers of small, easily accessible buses, a business that has consistently inspired the loyalty of customers for more almost 60 years.
The company strives to create new small buses while innovating and setting a standard to which others aspire. Vehicles such as the Strata, Maxima, Orion and Tucana are all revolutionary in their design and the technologies they use, providing customers with real choice and value.
Looking towards the future, the company envisages exciting times ahead and continues to embrace new technologies. Building on its electric drive product offering while at the same time, further developing a range of size appropriate buses that are economical to run, operationally efficient and continue to challenge conventional transport solutions.
All Mellor vehicles are designed, built and finished to the most exacting standards, ensuring the delivery of innovative, best value and quality vehicles, while at the same time remaining committed to the needs of customers.
