Last year at Busworld Solaris presented its brand new 24 metre Trollino 24 double articulated trolley bus. At a press meeting before the official presentation the international trade press praised the design of the bus. Now Solaris announced it won the International Top Design award. The award was handed over during the Arena Design 2020 event in Poznań.

The Top Design Award is a trademark of excellent design quality and it is awarded by a jury of independent specialists in design. The aim of the competition is to promote excellent design on a European level. The Polish Top Design award is a communication and promotion tool which “confirms unparalleled design quality of products”. Competition entries are evaluated by an independent jury consisting of experts in the field of design. In its distinctive MetroStyle version the Trollino 24 is a response to the latest trends in the public transport industry. The propulsion of the trolleybus consists of two traction motors of 160 kW each. The pack of Solaris High Power batteries is recharged during 'en route', collecting current from the overhead line. Thanks to the batteries, the Trollino can move also without external power supply. Over 200 people can travel on board of the Trollino24, which makes it a solution for metropolises with routes where passenger traffic is heavy.

Defining for this year’s edition of the Arena Design (AD) exhibition is the idea of slowness, and it is this concept that displays and talks accompanying the event centre around. During the AD Talks session, Jens Timmich, chief designer of Solaris buses, talked about the dynamic change happening in public transport, and how Solaris understands the transition and uses it in the creation of its products.
