Solaris has announced a new 15 metre Urbino Electric. It will be a low-entry tri-axle bus with in mind the specific needs of the Scandinavian market. The vehicle will be available both as a typical city bus (class I) and also as an intercity bus (class II).

Although Solaris already offered its first tri-axle buses with diesel or CNG engine, of 15 metres back in 1999 this electric version is absolutely new. Tri-axle 15 metre buses are very popular in Scandinavian markets. They serve in urban traffic but are also used for intercity transport and this results in a high demand.

The Solaris Urbino 15 LE electric will be offered either with two or with three doors (2-2-0 or 2-2-1 layout), and will be able to carry up to 55 passengers seated on the bus. Energy will be stored in Solaris High Energy+ batteries of the latest generation with high energy density. Two battery charging modes will be possible, depending on the users’ preferences, involving either a plug-in charger or a roof-mounted pantograph on the bus.

The coming weeks Solaris finishes the design stage and launches two pre-series buses. Solaris promises to disclose more technical details on its new Urbino 15 LE electric in April.
