KVB COLOGNE ORDERS 53 VDL CITEA ELECTRIC

Public transport company KVB Cologne has ordered 53 electric VDL Citeas: 48 Citea SLFA-181 Electric articulated in BRT design and 5 Citea SLF-120 Electric. The buses will be delivered during the fourth quarter of 2020. They will be operating in the city centre of Cologne. With this order, KVB is on its way towards full electrification of the bus fleet.

KVB ordered the first fully electric articulated Citeas in 2016: 8 VDL Citea SLFA-181 Electric. This made KVB the very first carrier in Europe to have articulated e-buses in its fleet. The 8 Citea SLFA Electric have been running on Germany's first all-electric bus line since December 2016: line 133 from Cologne railway station to Zollstock district. With the 53 new Citea Electric lines 141, 145 and 149 on the left and lines 150, 153 and 159 on the right side of the Rhine will be electrified. The new buses will also be used on line 126, from Bocklemünd to Chorweiler and vice versa. As a result of this new order, KVB will have replaced a quarter of its diesel fleet with electric vehicles by the end of 2021. The entire energy requirement including heating, air conditioning, lighting and ticket machine, of the 53 Citeas Electric is handled by the battery.

Kölner Verkehrs-Betriebe AG is Germany's fourth largest municipal public transport company and provides public transport in Cologne and the surrounding area. The fleet consists of 382 trains and trams and 330 buses operated by 3,400 employees. KVB transports almost 800,000 people every day.
