Michelin presented the next Michelin X-Incity Energy Z at Busworld in Brussels. It is the first tyre in 275/70R22.5 suitable for a steer axle load of eight tons which will allow future generations of electric buses to increase their capacities.

According to Michelin the change towards sustainable mobility is not without its problems, one of which is coming from the increased bus weight induced by batteries necessary for a coherent autonomy. The current tyre limitation of 7.5 tonnes per axle obliges manufacturers to make compromises on the autonomy of the bus or the passenger capacity. Or even to go beyond dimensional standards by accepting bigger tyres. The new Michelin 275/70R22.5 152/148J X-Incity Energy Z tyre is Michelin’s answer to these new challenges. This tyre allows for a maximum axle load of eight tonnes with a load index of 152/148 which remains, however, within the standard dimension of 275/70R22.5. It can be fitted either on the driving axle or on the steering axle. Its carcass is strengthened with special cables. The specific design of its tread and sidewall is optimized to bear the demands of city traffic, to reduce noise and rolling resistance. This new retreadable tyre is designed to endure abrasion, pavement shocks and is branded M+S and 3PMSF.
