For the Swedish city of Gothenburg and home town for the Volvo Group, Transdev has placed an order at Volvo Buses for 157 electric articulated buses. Starting in 2020 the buses will be running on a number of routes in Gothenburg. The electric buses will be able to operate in sensitive areas or zones with special restrictions, geofencing.

All of the buses will be of the recently launched 7900 Volvo Electric Articulated which can carry up to 150 passengers. Volvo states in its press release that the energy consumption of these electric buses is 80 per cent lower than that of a corresponding diesel bus. The buses will be charged at quick-charge stations along the route, using OppCharge. In addition to the electric buses, the order includes 27 Euro 6 buses for regional operations, running on biodiesel.

The Volvo Group has its headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden. It currently employs approximately 95,000 people, has production facilities in 18 countries, and sells its products in more than 190 markets.
