Iveco Bus delivered the first 15 hybrid electric Urbanway buses to STIB-MIVB (Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company) in Brussels.
This delivery follows the signing of a framework agreement last September for the supply of 141 Urbanway buses, which should be completed by 2020.

This symbolic event with the hand-over from Stéphane Espinasse, Iveco Bus Brand Leader to Brieuc de Meeûs, CEO of STIB-MIVB marks the start of the delivery of the 141 hybrid buses over the coming two years. The first 75 vehicles are in full operation by September, followed by a second batch during the first half of 2020.

The low floor hybrid Urbanway for STIB-MIVB offers a passenger capacity of up to 130 people and comfort zone dedicated to vulnerable users and modular areas can accommodate a wheelchair or children’s pushchairs. This hybrid bus combines an electric traction system with a Euro 6 engine and an electric storage system. The Hybrid Urbanway has a “Arrive & Go” function which enables operation in 100% electric mode when approaching and leaving bus stops and traffic lights.

With the hybrid system fuel consumption is reduced by 30% as the CO2 emissions compared with diesel buses. Its Tector 7 286hp engine is compatible with the second generation HVO biofuel and if used can reduce carbon emissions by up to 90%.

The Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company (STIB-MIVB) serves 19 municipalities in the Brussels region as well as 11 more on the outskirts, covering a total area of 241.5 km². It provides a transport service for over 1,100,000 residents as well as thousands of commuters.
