Bart Schmeink, the recently departed CEO of Transdev Netherlands, formerly Connexxion, has acknowledged he will become Strategic Director at bus manufacturer Ebusco. Also former topmanager of Transdev, Michel van Maanen, will strengthen the management team of Ebusco.

Ebusco is a Dutch electric bus manufacturer owned by founder and CEO Peter Bijvelds, ING Corporate Investments and Van der Valk Investments. Ebusco is growing fast in the Netherlands and abroad. According to Ebusco expansion of the management team has become necessary to keep up with this fast growing market.

Schmeink will start working as a strategic advisor from 1 June to promote that Ebusco becomes a fully-fledged player in the fast-growing market for electric city and intercity buses. Van Maanen is to be the new chief commercial officer (cco) and chief operating officer (coo). At the beginning of December last year, Schmeink announced his departure from Transdev. He previously led the Amsterdam municipal transport company GVB and Merseyrail, an English rail company partly owned by Abellio. Van Maanen was interim CEO and performance director at Transdev and Veolia in Portugal, the Netherlands and Australia.

Ebusco started seven years ago with an innovation credit of €4.5 million from the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The company achieved a turnover of €20 million last year and was profitable for the first time. The buses from Ebusco are still being manufactured in China, but the company plans to transfer the assembly to Deurne in the Dutch province Brabant. The company expects to employ nearly two hundred people by the end of 2020 and estimates it will produce two hundred electric buses a year. Also Ebusco is working on a prototype of a bus made of composite materials.
