Spanish manufacturer Irizar has signed a contract to supply ten Irizar ie buses to the German city of Düsseldorf. This tender was one of the biggest for electric buses in Germany in the last 12 months. For Irizar it is a milestone, for it are the first Irizar ie-buses to be delivered in Germany. It concerns the 12 metre long zero emission ie-bus which operator Rheinbahn in Düsseldorf has ordered.

The Irizar ie bus for Düsseldorf is a new generation of the ie 12 model that's operating in several European cities since 2014. The new generation will be presented to the market at the end of this year. Soon after Irizar will start deliveries to Düsseldorf late this year.

The new generation of the ie-12 includes the latest innovations in technology and design. Irizar says it has managed a 10% weight reduction. Also improvements are made in passenger capacity to fit regulations in several countries.

The ie-bus is completely silent and is of course zero emission and includes technology from the Irizar Group for the electronics, energy storage and communications. It has 2 doors, 34 seats, 1 driver's seat, 3 wheelchair areas and a total passenger capacity of 74. These buses will have a range of 200-220 km and will be charged at night using inter-operable chargers with Combo 2-CCS charging outlets with 300 kWh of loaded energy.

Irizar e-mobility provides sales and after sales services for electric buses and charging infrastructure in the German, Austrian and Swiss markets though Ferrostaal Equipment Solutions.

Rheinbahn in Düsseldorf is a public transport operator and has more than 737 vehicles in its fleet, including buses and trams, and moves 760,000 passengers every day.
