FOTON DELIVERES 2,790 HYBRID AND ELECTRIC BUSES TO BEIJING
Chinese Bus and auto manufacturer Foton delivered this week 2,790 plug-in hybrid and electric buses to Beijing Public Transport Corporation (BPTC). With this delivery the total number of Foton “new energy” buses, as they are called in China, in operation in Beijing is approaching 10,000 units.
The batch of 2,790 buses consists of 1,640 pure electric buses and 1,150 plug-in hybrid units. The pure electric bus is 12-meter long and has a capacity for 80 passengers. It can travel over 180 kilometres on a single charge and can be fully charged in 15 minutes using a "double-barrel" quick charge method.
These 2,790 new energy buses are part of a total order of 4,966 of these buses placed by BPTC in the last couple of years. Foton has delivered close to 10,000 new energy buses to BPTC.
BPTC estimates that by 2020, the city's electric buses will exceed 11,000 units, which is more than 50 percent of its bus fleet. By the end of 2020 all buses in Beijing's downtown area and the city's sub-center will be powered by electricity. (Source: China.org and Chinabuses.org)
