Volvo Buses is the winning bus chassis manufacturer to supply up to 900 buses over the next decade to the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia (PTA). Volvo will supply the units together with bodybuilder Volgren Australia.

Volvo will remain prime contractor under the new deal, which is the second long-term contract from the PTA. It is Volvo’s largest chassis order to date in Australia. The order has a value of AUD 274 million for the first 5 year term. It is is part of an investment in the state’s future bus fleet where vehicles reaching the end of their useful life will be replaced with new high quality, modern vehicles. An average of 90 buses will be delivered per year for up to 10 years, with an initial 5 year deal, and option for a further 5 years. The buses will operate in the Perth metropolitan region.

The modern, aluminum, low-floor diesel buses on Volvo's B8RLE chassis will have USB charging points, meet Euro 6 emissions standards and will be fully wheel chair accessible. In this order Volvo has partnered with Truck Centre WA (TCWA) as servicing dealer. A relationship of over 50 years. TCWA employs more than 240 staff across its network.

The first Volgren-bodied Volvo B8RLE Euro 6 prototype for the new contract is expected to be delivered in August this year. Full production will commence in October 2019, with 66 buses to be delivered to the PTA in the first twelve months.
