Just a few weeks before the Autosalon in Geneva, Switzerland, Mercedes-Benz revealed the new V-Classe and gave the international trade press a sneak preview of the new EQV, the electric sister of the V-Classe, which is now on show in Geneva.

Mercedes-Benz Vans plans to release a series-production vehicle most similar to this Concept EQV in the not-so-distant future. Actually we were told that at the end of this year or the beginning of next year an EQV might go into series production. EQ is Mercedes-Benz sub brand for electric vehicles. Technical highlights of the vehicle include a range of up to 400 kilometres and rapid charging to enable a range of 100 kilometres within just 15 minutes. Like its diesel sister the EQV offers a high level of comfort in its interior and maximum functionality. A 150 kW motor with 100 kWh capacity delivers a range of up to 400 kilometres and a top speed of 160 km/h. A compact electric drivetrain (eATS) is mounted on the front axle with an output of 150 kW. The electric motor, the transmission with fixed transmission ratios, the cooling system and the power electronics form a compact and integral unit. Energy is supplied by a lithium-ion battery to be charged by a Mercedes-Benz wallbox or a regular household plug socket. The focus in the cockpit is on the new and intuitive MBUX system (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) which unites a self-learning voice control system with innovative connectivity features.

The dynamic exterior design with its new electro-look has at its heart a radiator grille with chrome inserts and an LED band – typical characteristics of the EQ design idiom. On the outside the EQV looks like a twin of its diesel sister the new V-Classe. Five years ago, Mercedes-Benz presented the V-Class and sold around 200.000 of them, mainly for VIP transportation, taxi and even dedicated public transport. The front of the car is changed and has a newly designed bumper with striking cooling air intake and diamond structure of the radiator grille. There are four new paint colours available. The new interior has trim elements with double stripe look and newly designed air vents. Optimal luxury seats in the rear enhance the range of seats in the MPV and pamper occupants with – optional - berth function, back massage and climate control. The four-cylinder OM 654 diesel is now for the first time available in the V-Class with a new top engine in the V 300 d with 176 kW (239 hp) and 500 Nm torque (combined fuel consumption 6.3-5.9 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions 165-154 g/km). In the acceleration phase, the V 300 d offers an an additional 30 Nm of torque. The new 9G-Tronic automatic transmission is available. The V-Classe has extra safety systems such as Active Brake Assist to reduce the severity of a collision with a vehicle in front, stationary obstacles and pedestrians crossing the vehicle's path (in urban traffic) or it can even prevent them from occurring altogether. At the end of this year the first new V-Classe will be delivered.
