MAN INVESTS 27.4 MILLION EURO IN ELECTRIC BUS PRODUCTION
In the MAN city bus plant in Starachowice (Poland) MAN is investing 27.4 million euro to start production of the all new MAN Lion's City E, the electric version of the MAN citybus.
Although the investment runs on to the end of 2021 MAN is planning to start mass production of the Lion's City E already in 2020. The investment is the next phase of the plant location’s modernisation and preparation for electric transport as it is already underway at MAN’s plant in Starachowice. The operating company, MAN Bus Sp. z o.o. Starachowice, received approval in August 2018 to expand its activities to include manufacturing complete electric buses within the “Starachowice” Special Economic Zone. The capital expenditure of 27.4 million euro is the equivalent of 118 million Polish złoty. Completion of the works is planned for the end of 2021.
The plant in Starachowice is for MAN a 'centre of excellence' in the production of low-floor city buses. This investment is another important stage in the development of the assembly plant. Last year 1,724 buses rolled off the production line. In the press release MAN states that with the expansion of the Starachowice plant MAN lays the foundation to branch out into zero-emissions vehicles in the near future. Before mass production begins in 2020, the project will need to be carefully prepared, with a safety concept devised and the electric vehicles optimised in terms of efficiency and ergonomics.
