The IAA Nutzfahrzeuge 2018 lies behind us again. Big, bigger biggest is probably the best way to describe this 2018 edition. 2,174 exhibitors from 48 countries on 282,000 square meters where no less than 250,000 visitors came. They could see 435 firsts, from the first Scania LNG bus to the first Neoplan's with cameras as mirrors and various 'concept cars'. The Mercedes-Benz Citaro Hybrid was crowned 'International Bus of the Year 2019'.

The Iveco stand was forbidden for diesels. Only hybrids and CNG or LNG vehicles and engines were on display. For the electric bus part, it seems that the sister brand Heuliez with its electric buses is preferred within the group. The Heuliez GX 337 participated in the Bus Euro Test 2018. However, the articulated trolleybus Crealis 18m with In-Motion-Charging received the Sustainable Bus Award 2019 in the Urban category.


Temsa starts with the production of electric buses from 9 to 12 meters, with different charging technologies. The base model is the well known Avenue but has now the addition 'Electron'. A new design with a sophisticated interior. Temsa offers three battery packs: 240, 300 or 360 kWh. The maximum range is 350 km.


A second award was for the Mercedes-Benz Citaro Hybrid, namely the Sustainable Bus. In the 'coach' category, this award was for the new Volvo 9900.


Then there was a nice hybrid bus to see at the Traton stand. This one from the Brazilian Volkswagen Caminhões e Ômnibus is called e-Flex. He has a 260 kilowatt strong electric motor, torque of 2150 Nm, and works with a 110 kW (148 HP) Volkswagen Tsi 1.4 engine. The capacity of the batteries varies between 80 and 400 kWh.
