TWO NEW 'EUROPEAN' MADE BYD'S: 12 M SOLO AND 18 M ARTICULATED
With two new assembly plants in Europe, one in Hungary and one in France, BYD has launched two new products for the European market: a 12 metre solo and a 18 metre articulated bus. Both feature BYD’s stylish new frontal appearance which is now standard on all of its ebuses.
Both buses, two world premieres, were at this years IAA in Hannover. The BYD 12m ebus is the first ‘modular’ bus built by BYD following a new construction concept which has resulted in many new and improved features – and most are to be found on the articulated bus too. Through the brand new modular manufacturing concept the structural design of the 12m ebus is optimized. It also reduces the manufacturing time and reduces the types of components required. Many of the components used in both in Europe assembled buses are from European suppliers. According to BYD the product quality has been improved and equals now the European standard.
The new modular way of building has also resulted in a reduced gross weight by some 4%. Further more also the torsional rigidity of the bus body is increased by 80%, enhancing both safety and reliability. The optimized powertrain and drive axle and additional and improved sound-proofing materials has made the bus quieter. The new 18m articulated ebus is equipped with pantograph charging facilities. The batteries also come with multiple choices of charging solutions, including AC charging, DC charging and, where required, opportunity charging.
BYD buses are equipped with BYD Iron-Phosphate batteries and are equipped with BYD’s Battery Thermal Management System and a Smart Monitoring and Diagnosing System (SMDS), which allows customers to remotely diagnose problems and control the bus systems, leading to reducing maintenance costs.
Also installed on the buses is a new intelligent low-voltage electricity management and control system which is integrated into all the electric circuits of the bus.
The comfort and convenience on the bus has been improved on both the inside and outside of the buses. The dashboard has adopted a new sealing structure which effectively reduces the noise inside the whole vehicle. The auxiliary dashboard is equipped with an innovative Alcantara design. The roof is made of composite. A unique ambient LED lighting design has improved the passengers’ visual experience.
