The Mercedes-Benz Citaro Hybrid is the International Bus of the Year 2019. During the IAA the winner of the Bus Euro Test 2018 was announced at the booth of Daimler in hall 14/15. This years appointed ceo of Daimler Buses and Evobus, Till Oberwörder, received the Award from jury president Tom Terjesen.

The international jury consisting of trade journalists from 22 European countries selected the Mercedes-Benz Citaro Hybrid after a four day test in Zagreb in May this year. The other contestants who were nominated to participate in the Buys Euro Test 2018 in Zagreb, were: Irizar ie-tram and the Heuliez GX 337 Elec Linium. The jury considered the Mercedes-Benz Citaro Hybrid to be a bus with a good and relative cheap solution regarding the climate discussion and energy-transition, especially for urban transport. “It can be put into service immediately without the need for additional infrastructure. Together with HVO and/or biodiesel it can compete with alternative drivelines regarding emissions in an urban setting”, Tom Terjesen, President of the International Bus and Coach of the year jury.

The Bus Euro Test
The Bus Euro Test takes four days and starts with technical measurements (acceleration and braking tests) to get a good impression about the capabilities of the vehicles. During an extensive two days road test on a route which is an actual bus line, the jury members have tested the vehicle on the public road. The drive-ability, steering and view for the driver, access for maintenance, comfort for the passengers, accessibility for wheelchairs and baby-carriages, the placing of the hand rails, cleaning of the vehicle, construction (rattle and hum), seats, windows - how large or small - etcetera are subjects the jury members will take notice of including respect for the environment, sustainability and that it meets and serves the needs of the business/utility user in an efficient and economical manner. It all ends up into one final winner: the International Bus of the Year 2019!

The Bus Euro Test 2018 was sponsored by ZF, Busworld, Goodyear and ZET, Zagreb's public transport company.
