VOITH TO PRESENT NEW DIWA NXT
Following the initial announcement two years ago, Voith is now ready to present its new DIWA NXT transmission. Voith says with the new transmission it meets the needs of the inter-city and coach segment by providing an additional overdrive. The transmission features a mild-hybrid system with an optional 48V central recuperation unit (CRU) and offers a optimized gear ratio for inter-city applications through an additional overdrive gear.
To optimize the performance Voith has separated the torque converter and retarder which provides both improved traction and braking performance. The additional overdrive results in a wider transmission spread with higher flexibility in driveline design, making the DIWA NXT also applicable for inter-city buses and coaches.
The optional mild-hybrid system uses a central recuperation unit (CRU) based on 48 V technology with a continuous power of 25 kW (peak power: 35 kW). It recuperates energy in downhill and deceleration phases and makes it available to the vehicle’s electrical system via the battery and a DC/DC converter as well as for traction. The CRU is highly integrated into the flywheel housing between the engine and the transmission and requires almost no additional installation space. In addition to that, the transmission is very easy, fast and user-friendly to maintain and service. Start of production for Voith’s DIWA NXT is expected early 2021 but the first sample will be showcased at the IAA in Hannover (booth A14 in hall 17).
