Mercedes-Benz do Brasil announced the largest export order in the last ten years: 500 buses for Nigeria. The first 200 buses will be exported at the end of August 2018 and will immediately be operated on the streets in Lagos.

The major order from Nigeria for Mercedes-Benz do Brasil consists of 250 units of the urban bus O 500 U and 250 of the microbus LO 915. In partnership with the bodybuilder Caio, the sale was made to the Coscharis Group, a Nigerian company that operates in several sectors and with these 500 buses makes its debut in the urban collective transport sector. On delivery the buses will immediately be taken in operation on the streets in Lagos, Nigeria's largest city and one of the largest in the African continent.
Nigeria is searching for modernising its bus fleet as reported earlier this year in 'AllAfrica.com'. 'Lagos is undergoing change on a scale perhaps unprecedented in the history of Nigeria. At the core of this change is the Bus Reform Initiative (BRI) the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode introduced in early 2017. And the plan seeks to formalise the transport sector; inject at least 5,000 new buses in the state and into the streets of Lagos.'
For Mercedes-Benz do Brasil this export volume of 500 buses to the African market – the largest bus sales to Nigeria in the last 10 years for the company – means a further strengthening of the Company's position in Nigeria. Mercedes-Benz do Brasil exports buses and trucks to around 50 countries on several continents: Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
