Together with the new eCitaro Mercedes-Benz launched during the pre IAA press-conference a completely new minibus, the Sprinter City 75. The new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter forms the basis for a totally new generation of the successful range of minibuses with the star. And of course it will be on display at the IAA in Hannover.

Thanks to an extended wheelbase of 5095 mm the Sprinter City 75 city bus offers a large low-floor platform and due to its high-load rear axle it manages a high passenger capacity of maximum 38.

Mercedes-Benz decided to maintain the well known names for this new minibus-series. It starts with the Sprinter City and will be followed soon by the Sprinter Transfer, Sprinter Mobility and Sprinter Travel. The names stand for operations in line service, as a versatile shuttle bus, for transport of passengers with limited mobility, and for tourist transport.

The Sprinter City 75 measures 8.4 m and is based on the new rear-wheel-drive Sprinter panel-van. Behind the cab the body has a discreet skeleton structure and a large low-floor compartment between the axles. The high-load rear axle features dual tyres of size 17.5 inch and has a load-bearing capacity of 5 tonnes. Together with the reinforced front axle the City 75 has a GVW of 6.8 tonnes.

For the occasion of the world premiere Mercedes-Benz showed a special vehicle with ad-on parts painted an elegant “Silverstone Metallic”, a chromed radiator grille and a front bumper painted in vehicle colour. This show-model is equipped with a double-wing front-door and an electrically powered out-swinging door at the rear. On the inside, this City 75 is fitted with "Gaya Wood Yellowstone“ flooring, fully upholstered seats and "Evo Steel" vertical handrails with blue stop request buttons.

The driver has the benefit of a large screen and the new MBUX multimedia system. He sits on a heated suspension seat and his hands control a multifunction steering wheel. This Sprinter has also an electrically operated roller sunshade and power-folding side mirrors. The separate climate control system has a total output of 18 kW.

For a driveline this Sprinter has the new 120 kW (163 hp) engine combined with the 7G-TronicPlus automatic transmission. A Telma retarder assists the braking system. For safety the City 75 is equipped with Active Distance Assist Distronic, Active Brake Assist and the Mercedes-Benz emergency call system.

Production of the completely re-engineered Sprinter City 75 will start later this year followed by the Sprinter Transfer 23 and 35 and the Sprinter Mobility 23. The rest of the models in these series will follow next year, as will all models of the Sprinter Travel.
