BYD EXPANDS PRODUCTION WITH WORLD’S LARGEST BATTERY PLANT
BYD has set its goal to increase the companies total battery production capacity to 60 GWh by 2020. It is also BYD’s third battery factory in China after the two factories in Shenzhen and Huizhou. This new battery fsctory is build in Western China’s Qinghai province and has a capacity for 24 GWh power batteries and will be the largest battery factory in the world.
In square meters the new BYD battry factory equals the size of 140 football fields. The province Qinghai is rich on lithium. The complete construction works will be completed in 2019. With the growing demand for electric vehicles, especially buses, in the world and in particular in Western Europe BYD is expanding it production capacity. BYD President and Chairman Wang Chuanfu points out that electric vehicles are on the cusp of another boom.
The new Qinghai factory will be equiped with a first rate Manufacturing Execution System, smart logistics, driverless automatic guided vehicles and a seamless information integration.
The batteries BYD produces come with a unique QR code including the battery’s technical specifications and manufacturing information. BYD claims it offers a complete battery ecosystem including solar cells and energy storage batteries,
