It is a logical continuation of the strategy VDL has chosen to pursue a direct presence of its bus and coach division in most of the major bus markets in Western Europe. The Spanish bus market is currently undergoing a remarkable boom. After the United Kingdom, Germany and France, Spain is Europe's fourth bus and coach market, and it is the second coach market after Germany.

VDL Bus & Coach España S.L. is led by Anno Dirksen. He spent the past nine years as managing director of VDL Bus & Coach Italia s.r.l. For the after-sales process, Anno can rely on the vast experience of Angel Gomez, who has been active in the Spanish market for many years. Anno Dirksen says, “It is a huge challenge and honour to lead this new subsidiary in one of the most important and largest Western European markets. In addition to the complete portfolio of VDL Bus & Coach, VDL Bus & Coach España S.L. also provides a reliable after-sales and parts organization.” More news about the further development of VDL Bus & Coach in Spain will follow soon.

VDL Bus & Coach will further expand its position in Nordic Europe. At Busworld in Kortrijk, VDL Bus & Coach reached agreement to acquire the shares from the Swedish company Bjorks & Byberg in VDL Bus & Coach Nordic. VDL Groep’s bus division held a minority shareholding in the sales organisation of buses in The Nordics for many years. VDL Bus & Coach will now take over the majority interest from Bjorks & Byberg.

The agreement of intent states that the transaction will be completed before the end of 2017. VDL Bus & Coach Nordic, with subsidiaries in Sweden, Finland and Norway, employs approximately 60 people.
