THIRTY ELECTRIC BUSES EACH FOR BERLIN AND HAMBURG

The Berlin public transport company BVG intends to order 30 electric-powered buses. A call for tender is currently in preparation. Hamburg is prepared to add gradually more electric buses to its fleet during the coming years.

Hence, the BVG’s original plan to replace diesel vehicles by CNG buses is no longer a topic. Hamburg has already some experience with electric buses, some are running on the so-called “Innovationslinie”, a bus line through the city destined for the sole use of advanced vehicles like electric buses. The port city’s agency Hamburger Hochbahn prepares to gradually add electric buses to its fleet, as announced. Since a few days, a tender for initially 30 electric-powered buses due for delivery in 2018 or 2019 has been published. Bus manufacturers can apply until November. Hochbahn intends to electrify its complete fleet, all in all 1,000 vehicles.
