The Brussels public transport company MIVB/STIB has ordered is first seven fully electric buses. They will be built by the Polish busmanufacturer Solaris. The buses ordered are of the midibus type. By the end of next year the buses will be running on the cityline, the connection between uptown and downtown Brussels.

The batteries of the buses do not have to be charged during the day, they will be charged during the night. In a next step the MIVB/STIB will also start testing full-length electric buses, which might be fitted with induction charging. By 2030 the MIVB/STIB fleet should be fully electric. In between some 235 hybrid buses will also be acquired.

Earlier this year Solaris received an order from the  Belgian Wallonic public transport company TEC for 200 electric  buses.
