The English automotive clean tech firm AVID Technology has signed a deal with GKN Hybrid Power to develop and manufacture electric motors. AVID will take over the existing EVO motors, and develop EVO technology to deliver new variants of the motor.

According to the companies, the EVO motor’s high power density, ability to run at speeds that remove the need for a gearbox, and flat configuration enable in-wheel designs, and allow it to operate in confined spaces.

AVID’s core business is the electrification and control of engine ancillaries, thermal management systems and hybrid systems, including pumps and fans. Customers include manufacturers of heavy-duty and high-performance electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicle powertrains.

The EVO axial flux motor technology has a growing target market, according to GKN,while AVID, a young and ambitious UK firm which is also focused on clean energy technology, will further develop the EVO motor and bring the system into regular production.
