De Lijn, the national local and regional transport supplier in the country has decided to invest from 2019 onwards only in buses with some kind of alternative drive – for example hybrid, electric or fuel cell.

The Climate Fund of the Flemish government will supply the funding for this increased greening of the public transport. The funds will be applied for the acquisition of 220 new buses during the period 2017/2018. The hybrid buses will mainly be used in cities, the Euro 6 diesel buses from this batch will be used on the regional lines

In 2019 a second batch of 120 hybrid and/or electric buses will be ordered, intended to replace older vehicles from the De Lijn fleet, in order to realize a further greening of De Lijn’s own fleet and the fleet subcontractor. New subcontractors will be asked to enter “green” buses for the “De Lijn” traffic..
