HINO BUS ASSEMBLY IN INDIA DELAYED

The joint venture between Hino Motors Ltd, the commercial vehicle arm of Toyota Motor Corp., and Japanese trading firm Marubeni Corp. had to defer its December 2009 launch because of a delay in the so-called homologation process, said Amol J. Sandil, executive vice-president, Hino Motors Sales India. Hino plans to import the buses in semi-knocked-down form from the parent firm’s Thailand factory. JCBL India Pvt. DAIMLER AG SIGNS MOU WITH BYD TO ESTABLISH AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE TECHNOLOGY PARTNERSHIP IN CHINA

Daimler AG recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BYD Company Limited to enter into a comprehensive technology partnership for the development of electric vehicles for China. Under the agreement, Daimler and BYD intend to develop a new electric vehicle specific to the requirements of the Chinese market. The vehicle will be marketed under a new brand jointly created and owned by Daimler and BYD. In addition, a common technology center will be established in China to develop, design and test this electric vehicle.

Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, Mayor of Madrid (Spain) announced recently during an informative breakfast meeting in Madrid that the City Council of Madrid is preparing a regulation that will prevent the purchase of new taxis and urban buses running on diesel.

Ashok Leyland is gearing up to step up its fully-built buses' component to a higher level. Addressing a press conference after inaugurating the state-of-the-art Viralimalai facility of Irizar-TVS Limited, a three-way equal joint venture between TVS Sons Ltd., Ashok Leyland and Irizar of Spain, R. Seshasayee, Managing Director of Ashok Leyland, said 30 per cent of the buses sold by the company were built by itself at the moment. Ashok Leyland was keen to increase this percentage to 90 per cent over the next three years. During the next financial year, the company planned to take it up to 60 per cent, he said.
