JBM AUTO TO START MAKING BUSES
JBM auto, one of the main manufacturers of sheet steel components in India and supplier to commercial vehicle manufacturers such as Volvo, Ashok Leyland, Eicher and Tata Motors, will soon start making full-fledged buses on its own. S. K. Arya, group chairman, said the company is entering the business because it saw a ‘huge gap in quality transport’.
GOLDEN DRAGON: 1000th BUS THROUGH ELECTROPHORESIS BATH
Chinese bus manufacturer Golden Dragon Bus recently gave the 1000th complete bus body an electrophoresis primer in their bus plant in Haicang, Xiamen. In early 2007, Golden Dragon kicked off the second phase of its full-sized coach manufacturing project in this city, including China’s first complete vehicle body pretreatment and cathode electrophoresis primer facility.
PLAXTON ANNOUNCES 2009 FLAGSHIP MODEL
British coachbuilder Plaxton, part of Alexander Dennis, is set to expand her line-up of coach models with a new flagship model, as yet un-named, which will offer high standards of comfort. It is the latest stage in an ongoing product development programme at Plaxton which over the last 18 months has seen its coach range expand to include high-capacity 15m Panthers, the introduction of Euro 4 models, the addition of the new Volvo B9R, and the availability of wide-entrance accessible bodywork being extended to include MAN models, and the B9R,
GHABBOUR AUTO ANNOUNCES BUS-MAKING DEAL WITH MARCOPOLO
The Egyptian company Ghabbour Auto disclosed a $ 70 million joint venture with Brazil's Marcopolo for a bus assembly facility project in Suez on the Red Sea. The new facility is expected to start production in 2009 with a targeted capacity of 1,500 buses in the first year of operation to be increased to 8,000 annually by 2014.
ABC LAUNCHES M-CLASS MIDICOACH
American coach manufacturer ABC Companies’ recently launched the new M-class 35-ft 3035RE motorcoach, built by General Coach of America (GCA), a division of Thor Industries, but developed by ABC Companies. It features body-on-rail construction on a Freightliner XBR chassis. The Cummins ISB EPA-07 280hp engine couples to an Allison PTS 3000 Gen IV transmission.
