THAI BUS OPERATORS CHANGE COLLECTIVELY TO NGV

Private-bus concessionaires in Thailand will have to replace their diesel-powered green minibuses with new NGV buses within the next six months. Executives of the Islamic Bank of Thailand, the Land Transport Department and the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) signed a joint agreement to grant loans worth 1.5 billion baht to minibus operators to help them replace their current diesel-powered bus fleets with NGV ones.

SMITH ELECTRIC VEHICLES UNVEILS ELECTRIC MIDIBUS AT LCV 2009

Smith Electric Vehicles, part of the Tanfield Group, has launched the first  high-specification minibus at the Low Carbon Vehicle exhibition 2009, recently held at the Millbrook proving ground. Visitors to the LCV2009, the low carbon vehicle showcase event, had the first opportunity to test drive a new electric people carrier, unveiled by one of the world’s largest manufacturers of commercial electric vehicles (EVs).

NANJING IVECO ELECTRIC MINIBUS PUT INTO SERVICE

Nanjing Iveco's electric minibus has been eventually put into practical use after about a year of R&D endeavour. Since a couple of months ten of these new energy vehicles featured with a zero-emission and pollution-free driveline have been used as the official service buses by a Chinese authority.

NAVISTAR ENTERS ENGINE SUPPLY AGREEMENT WITH DAEWOO BUSES

Navistar Engine Group, an operating unit of Navistar, Inc., has entered a supply agreement to develop and produce diesel engines for two new Daewoo Bus models  for the Korean and other global markets. Under the agreement, Navistar's Brazilian affiliate MWM International Indústria de Motores da América do Sul Ltda. will supply the MaxxForce(R) brand engines to Clark ENG Ltd., which develops bus products for Korea-based Daewoo Bus Corporation.

PLASTISOL UK BUYS TVAC ASSETS

Dutch-based Plastisol, manufacturer of complete plastic bodies which were among others used as a basic body on the TVAC Eclipse low floor minibus, has set up a new UK company Plastisol UK Ltd which has bought the assets of TVAC, which went into administration late last year. The new company will be based at Chorley, Lancashire.
