FIRST CHINESE FUEL CELL BUS PRESENTED AT BUSWORLD ASIA 2008

At the Sunlong stand during the recently held Busworld Asia exhibition Sunlonmg and its partner Shanghai Shen-Li High Tech Co showed the first Chinese fuel-cell bus, prepared for operation in Beijing.  

ALEXANDER DENNIS, BAE SYSTEMS TO BUILD HYBRID BUSES

UK-based companies Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) and BAE Systems will partner to bring hybrid buses to London next year. BAE Systems will integrate its series hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system onto five ADL 14-ton single-deck buses and five ADL 18-ton double-deck buses. The 10 pre-production units will be progressively introduced to test and revenue services.

LATEST NEW YORK CITY BUSES WITH HYBRID PROPULSION COST LESS TO OWN AND OPERATE

A recent American government report says New York City’s newer hybrid-powered buses cost 40 percent less to maintain and 24 percent less to operate than earlier-generation hybrids. Those buses, the second-generation Orion VII from Daimler Buses North America, are powered by BAE Systems’ HybriDrive® diesel-electric propulsion system.

NOVA BUS SECURES ORDER FOR 141 HYBRID BUSES TO VANCOUVER

Nova Bus, a subsidiary of Volvo Bus Corporation (NASDAQ:VOLV) (STO:VOLVA) (STO:VOLVB), has received an order for 141 hybrid buses to TransLink in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The contract includes an option for an additional 110 buses.

FURTHER SOLARIS HYBRID BUSES FOR GERMANY

After the third Solaris hybrid bus in Germany entered service in the Ruhr area with Bochum-Gelsenkirchener Straßenbahnen AG on 4 January, the “dachshund with two hearts” – the two hearts symbolise the combination of diesel and electric engines – will find a home in three further German cities in the course of 2008, where it will help to reduce the strain on the environment.
