LAHOOD ANNOUNCES US$77 MILLION IN GRANTS TO 22 UNIVERSITY TRANSPORTATION CENTERS

US Transportation Secretary, Ray LaHood, has announced US$77 million in grants to 22 University Transportation Centers (UTCs) to advance research and education programs that address critical transportation challenges facing the country. The UTCs, which are located throughout the USA, conduct research that directly supports the priorities of the US Department of Transportation (USDOT).

HUGE INVESTMENT IN INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION PREDICTED

Four key smart transportation sectors – traffic management systems; public transportation systems; smart charging for plug-in electric vehicles; and vehicle-to-vehicle systems – are set for a huge investment over the next five years. According to a report by Pike Research, there will be a global investment across these four areas of $13.2billion with annual spending to increase from just under $770million in 2011 to almost $3billion in 2017.

IBM Global Parking Survey: Drivers Share Worldwide Parking Woes

IBM's (NYSE: IBM) first parking survey released today found that drivers in 20 international cities face a daily struggle in finding a parking space. In the past year, nearly six out of 10 drivers have abandoned their search for a space at least once, and more than a quarter have gotten into an argument with a fellow motorist over a parking space.

Abu Dhabi’s transport authorities are implementing an integrated Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) strategy, in a bid to create a world-class transportation system for the Emirate. The scheme will involve the construction of a new Abu Dhabi Transportation Management Centre (ADTMC), which will have the ability to accommodate and integrate regional and urban traffic management, public transport operations and safety, traveler information and coordination of incident and emergency management.
