OPTARE ENTERS SMALL BUS MARKET WITH THE BONITO
Optare has announced its intention to enter the small and accessible bus market this year, with an all new Optare-badged model, called Bonito. The vehicle will be produced in the Netherlands by Plastisol to Optare's specification. It will go on sale to British operators from June, with export sales in other European markets following on.
MITSUBISHI FUSO LAUNCHES NEW ROSA LIGHT BUS
Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) launched a new version of the Rosa bus. The well known light bus now incorporates a series of advanced technologies. These include the world’s first light bus with dual-clutch transmission “Duonic” and the newly developed three-liter “4P10” diesel engine, which is based on a Fiat Powertrain engine block.
VDL MIDCITY BUSES FOR ARST
ARST, one of the most important public transport companies in Italy, has ordered 29 VDL MidCity buses. These MidCity buses will be deployed for intercity line service on the island of Sardinia starting in October/November 2011. The MidCity from VDL Bus & Coach was developed specifically for public transport and includes a multifunctional section with a low floor, which is ideally suited for standing room or wheelchairs for instance. This conversion to low-floor bus is a speciality VDL Bus & Coach developed itself, and it offers enormous flexibility.
BATTERY ELECTRIC AND DIESEL BUSES COMPARED HEAD TO HEAD
A comparative trial between Britain's first viable full-size, battery-powered bus – the Optare Solo EV – and a diesel engine equivalent, could accelerate the introduction of cleaner buses to Britain. Warwickshire bus and coach operator Johnsons Coach & Bus Travel is a partner in the six-day trial, which takes place in Stratford-upon-Avon this month and will involve measuring air and noise pollution on town streets.
CNG-FUELLED BUS COMPLETES 322,000 KM ALTOONA TEST WITH SUCCESS
A Creative Bus CNG installation on a Ford bus recently completed the demanding North-American Altoona Bus Test without any unscheduled maintenance or repairs to the CNG fuel system. Built on the Ford E-450 chassis, the cutaway bus is 25′ in length and has a passenger capacity of twenty one. The proprietary compressed natural gas fuel system was designed and installed in California by Creative Bus Sales, a company that specializes in CNG bus conversions.
