Following MAN Nutzfahrzeuge's announcement of its plans to concentrate production of Neoplan premium coaches in Plauen in future and to produce individual bus solutions in partnership with an external company, agreement has now been reached on the main points of the reorganisation of the Pilsting plant.

DAIMLER TO EXPAND BRAZIL BUS PRODUCTION

Daimler AG said Tuesday that its Mercedes-Benz unit will increase production of trucks, buses and their components at a plant in Brazil, investing €600 million (US$894 million) in the facility. Daimler said the investment in the Sao Bernardo do Campo plant — to be made between 2009 and 2011 — would result in a 25 percent increase in daily capacity, as well as a modernization of production and an improvement in logistics systems.

VW GETS GREEN LIGHT FOR SCANIA TAKEOVER

Volkswagen has said it has obtained regulatory approvals to take a majority voting stake in Scania. The majority voting stake is expected to be acquired on July 22, in a deal that will cost VW around 2.8 billion euros, a statement said. The German automotive company said in March that it had won control of Scania, which could eventually lead to its merger with German rival MAN, in which VW is also a leading shareholder.

GERMAN BUS INDUSTRY BUILDS 9 OUT OF 10 BUSES ABROAD

The German bus manufacturers increased their domestic production in the first six months of 2008 by 7 per cent. This growth was fed by the rising domestic demand. New registrations were up by 13 per cent, while exports fell slightly by 3 per cent. The growth in production was primarily due to the urban buses, whose production was up by 73 per cent in the first four months of the year.

CONNEXXION IS LAUNCHING CUSTOMER FOR VDL CITEA

After a development period of more than one and a half years, VDL Bus & Coach is extremely proud to announce the sale of the first batch of 10 Citea buses to the Dutch public transport company Connexxion. The bus was presented during last year’s UITP exhibition in Helsinki, Finland.
