MEXICO CITY METROBUS WINS PRESTIGIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD FROM HARVARD UNIVERSITY

The Mexico City Metrobus recently receive the 2009 Roy Family Award for Environmental Partnership from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. The Mexico City Metrobus is a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system that has significantly reduced air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in the world's second largest city. Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard will be among the recipients of the award and will discuss the success of the Metrobus and the city's comprehensive Climate Action Plan at Harvard University today.
HUNDRED VOLVO BI-ARTICULATED BUSES FOR SAO PAULO

Volvo Buses has received an order for 100 bi-articulated Volvo B9SALF buses from Sao Paulo in Brazil and an order for a further 84 articulated buses for the BRT system in Bogota, Colombia. Volvo will thus strengthen its position as the leading supplier of buses for these smart transport systems. An increasing number of cities are choosing to invest in BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), a bus-based transport system with high passenger capacity that facilitates rapid boarding and disembarking from buses.
DAIMLER BUSES TO DELIVER 1,045 BUS CHASSIS TO CHILE

Daimler Buses has secured for itself the biggest order in South America this year. As a result, the world’s largest bus manufacturer delivers 1,045 Mercedes-Benz city bus chassis to Santiago de Chile since October. The vehicles are destined for the Transsantiago public transport system, which was introduced in 2007. Since then the system has been providing Chile’s capital city and the surrounding area with a bus and subway infrastructure.
CAMBRIDGE BUSWAY SET FOR NOVEMBER START

Bus operators Stagecoach and Whippet have now registered services to operate on the Cambridgeshire guided busway in anticipation of the route between St Ives and Cambridge opening by the end of November. Busway contractor BAM Nuttall has said it is confident it will be able to hand over the completed northern section of the busway by the end of this month, and all the necessary construction certificates will be in place by opening.
MERCEDES-BENZ ARTICULATED CITARO BECOMES WORLD'S LARGEST AMBULANCE

With the capacity to treat and carry up to 123 people, and an overall length of 20.03 metres, the world's largest ambulance - a large-capacity emergency ambulance based on the Mercedes-Benz Citaro articulated bus - has entered the Guinness Book of Records. On Friday, 25 September 2009, an extraordinary record attempt took place in front of the Rhineland-Palatinate Federal State Parliament building in Mainz, Germany. Representatives from the Centre of Ambulance Services of the Government of Dubai, present at the event for the official hand-over of the bus, were in attendance as the official Guinness Book judges took the measurements to determine the precise carrying capacity of the Citaro.
