SP FIRE RECHNOLOGY TO TEST FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS

The Swedish institute SP Fire Technology is running a project to develop a new method to test the efficiency of fire suppression systems intended for engine compartments of buses and coaches. The Swedish Transport Agency is one of the funding sources of the project, the target of which is to submit a proposal for a standard in April 2012 at the UN Safety Group for Vehicles (GRSG) in Geneva.

MICHELIN/DOUBLE COIN JOINT VENTURE INCREASES CHINESE TYRE CAPACITY

Tyre manufacturers Michelin and Double Coin have entered into a China-based tyre production joint venture. The new joint venture run plant is already being built and is expected to cost approximately 390 million euros. The analysts also confirmed earlier reports that the factory will have a capacity of 15 million units annually. For the time being the agreement remains subject to approval by the appropriate Chinese authorities.

RICARDO: FLYWHEEL ENERGY STORAGE MORE EFFICIENT THAN GEARED DRIVES

Ricardo knows now for sure that its Kinergy flywheel energy storage system is more efficient than a conventional geared drive. The company said in a statement that it has achieved this via a significant improvement in the magnetic coupling and gearing system of Kinergy, a hermetically sealed, high-speed flywheel energy storage device. Kinergy is based on a high-speed carbon-fibre flywheel, operating within a sealed vacuum chamber at speeds of up to 60,000rev/min.

Applying a proprietary design, Hitachi Cable, Ltd. announces its success in developing the world's smallest compact connectors for use in power harnesses for hybrid electric vehicles and electric vehicles. The drive systems of these electric vehicles consist of electric motors, inverters, batteries, and AC and DC harnesses connecting these electrical devices. Given the limited space for wiring and high-temperature conditions inside engine compartments, these harnesses must provide outstanding high-temperature resistance and flexibility.
