The strategic alliance between ZF and Intel is now embarking on a different path with Openmatics. The open, powerful system will meet all requirements for telematics services and is to further standardize the market in the future. The system platform Openmatics consists of a hardware box and, in its core, the powerful Intel Atom processor. In terms of features and interfaces, the box is therefore ready to fulfill all present and many future telematics services for city buses - including multimedia applications.
NEW ZF ECOSHIFT MANUAL BUS TRANSMISSION

ZF presents its innovative bus transmission EcoShift at the IAA 2010. The special feature of the 6-speed manual transmission: The basic version is a flexible platform that is modularly extensible. The selection made was in favor of a manual basic transmission that is based on an extensible modular design principle and which, as a platform, is the basis for additional transmission variants.
NEW HIGH-POWER BATTERY TECH TO POWER BUSES

Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have found a way to make carbon nanotubes that could result in a hybrid battery-capacitor, resulting in a battery storage device that could store large amounts of energy quickly and output a large amount of power as well. This combines the best of both worlds for batteries and ultracapacitors), and would be an ideal solution for among others electric buses.
SPEROS LAUNCHES REVO AIRCO

Spheros GmbH, developer and manufacturer of bus heating and air conditioning systems, will be at this year’s IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hanover with numerous innovations. There is even a world premiere to be celebrated: the company will be unveiling the new REVO rooftop air conditioning unit, whose distinguishing features are minimum weight and noise emissions while achieving the highest level of performance due to a unique combination of materials.
ENGINE DEAL BETWEEN NAVISTAR AND OTOKAR

Navistar Engine Group, an operating unit of Navistar Inc., has closed an agreement to supply diesel engines to Turkish vehicle manufacturer Otokar. Within the framework of this agreement, MWM International Motores, Navistar’s South American affiliate, will produce MaxxForce engines to power buses.
