BYD TO START SELLING ELECTRIC BUSES BY YEAR END

BYD, China's largest rechargeable battery maker and an ambitious automaker, recently said its first batch of electric buses will roll off the production line and go on sale by the end of this year, xinhuanet.com reported today. The first phase of BYD's bus plant project will kick off next month in Changsha, capital city of central China's Hunan province.

EMTU, a Brazilian government organisation, has developed a hydrogen bus including the fuel production and logistics system, which is on trial now in Sao Paulo With this project, Latin American has what is purported to be its first hydrogen bus on that continent.

ENOVA DELIVERS HYBRID DRIVE SYSTEMS TO FIRST AUTO WORKS FOR HYBRID BUSES

Enova Systems, Inc. has delivered the first 70 pre-transmission hybrid drive systems to First Auto Works for application in a hybrid bus. FAW has ordered an additional 150 hybrid drive systems for delivery in 2009. Enova Systems and FAW have executed an agreement to supply a further 800 pre-transmission hybrid drive systems in 2010. First Auto Works is one of China’s largest vehicle producers, manufacturing in excess of 1,000,000 vehicles annually. The Enova drive system will be integrated and branded under the name of Jiefang.

Ten of China’s top automakers are joining in a research and development working group (T10 Electric Vehicles) for electric vehicle powertrains and components. The first meeting of the group was 30-31 July in Beijing.
