A study released recently by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) predicts that as gasoline prices continue increasing, Americans will turn to public transportation in record numbers. APTA is calling on Congress to address this impending demand by providing a greater long-term investment in public transportation.

TFL TO SPEND £67M ON ELECTRIC AND HYBRID VEHICLES

Transport for London says it plans to spend £67m on up to 1,300 electric and hybrid vehicles. The tender is divided into "lots" with 70% of the cash ring-fenced for electric and hybrid passenger vehicles with up to eight seats.

Three Asheville area artists have won the city’s first “Art on Transit” competition, the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department announced recently. Each artist will be awarded a $750 honorarium, and their design will grace both sides of a single bus. The winners were: Ray Noland’s “Jeweled Forest,” a color-splashed, whimsical forest; Naomi Johnson’s photos of local food and farmers; and Nina Ruffini’s “Message,” featuring bunnies adrift in boats.
RIDING PUBLIC TRANSIT SAVES INDIVIDUALS $9,242 ANNUALLY

Transit riders now save $600 more per year compared to last year at this time as the cost of gas has increased nearly $1 per gallon, says a recent American report. Riding the public transportation can save on average $9,242 annually based on the current national average petrol price and the national unreserved monthly parking rate. Compared to last year at this time, the average cost per gallon of petrol was $1.79 which is nearly $1 less than the current price of petrol at $2.75 per gallon.
