SCANDINAVIA: ELECTRONIC CROSS-BORDER TRAVELLING SOON
Denmark’s national Travel Card is aiming at the wholesale electronic replacement of cash paper tickets on the country’s trains and buses by 2011-2. Scheduled for a two-year roll-out starting in 2008, it will make Denmark the second European country, after The Netherlands, to implement a national multimodal travel scheme and the first to introduce one with cross-border potential.
EMERGENCY/BUS LANE TRIAL UNDERWAY IN GRENOBLE
Technology from the French firm Egis is forming the backbone for a new smart lane trial now operating in the city of Grenoble. The system allows buses to use the emergency lane at peak periods in the morning, when congestion is heavy and frequently brings traffic to a halt on the busy A48 highway into Grenoble.
ACS WINS $21 MILLION DUBAI TICKETING CONTRACT
Affiliated Computer Services (ACS) has announced it will provide a contactless ticketing system for the public buses and waterbuses of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The two contracts, awarded by infrastructure developer Energy International, Dubai, have a total value of US$21 million.
DELHI TRANSIT TO PURCHASE 2,300 BUSES
The Delhi (India) Transport Corporation (DTC) will purchase 2,300 CNG and diesel buses to augment its fleet.
