PRTM ANALYSIS SHOWS WORLDWIDE ELECTRIC VEHICLE VALUE CHAIN TO CREATE MORE THAN 1 MILLION JOBS

PRTM, a global management consulting firm, recently released new figures that show the worldwide battery-electric vehicle value chain is likely to be approximately $300B by 2020—creating more than 1 million related jobs. The US will probably account for only 125,000 of those new jobs. According to PRTM, these jobs will be created across the EV value chain at energy providers, smart grid technology firms, battery and component suppliers, vehicle OEMs and service providers.

REORGANISING TEL AVIV'S BUS NETWORK

UK-headquartered Transportation Planning (International) – TPi – has won a contract to help with the implementation of a reorganised bus network for the Tel Aviv metropolitan area. The transport consultancy is working alongside Ayalon Highways Company, on behalf of Israel’s Ministry of Transport (MoT), which has recognised the urgent need to restructure public transport to enable it to meet the transport challenges of the future in an economically and environmentally sustainable manner.

Two key highway projects have been granted official approval in India. The Bareilly-Sitapur and Parwanoo-Solan highways will feature two lanes in either direction and are being offered under 20 year concession packages, with the 30 month construction period included in the time-frame. The Bareilly -Sitapur project is worth some US$220 million while the Parwanoo-Solan project is worth $115.5 million.  

CAMBRIDGE BUSWAY SET FOR NOVEMBER START

Bus operators Stagecoach and Whippet have now registered services to operate on the Cambridgeshire guided busway in anticipation of the route between St Ives and Cambridge opening by the end of November. Busway contractor BAM Nuttall has said it is confident it will be able to hand over the completed northern section of the busway by the end of this month, and all the necessary construction certificates will be in place by opening.

SIEMENS WINS ORDER FOR NEW DELHI BRT IN INDIA

DIMTS (Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System) on behalf of the Transport Department has placed a major order with Siemens for the supply of design services and the installation of a significant range of intelligent traffic signalling equipment for the development of the city’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system including Extra Low Voltage (ELV) controllers and associated technology for 20 junctions.
