NEW DIESEL CATALYST DEVELOPED

Diesel engines use less fuel and emit less carbon dioxide than their gasoline counterparts, but a problem is the emission of smog-producing pollutants. With catalysts and DPF’s these problems could be solved. But a new problem was created due to the use of platinum, one of the most precious metals in the world. Now scientists have produced a new type of catalytic converter that could make catalysts cheaper for diesel engines.
DSM CLAIMS BREAKTHROUGH ON BIOFUELS

DSM, the Dutch chemicals company, is moving into the potentially huge market for second-generation biofuels, according to an article in the Financial Times. At this week’s world congress on industrial biotechnology in Washington, DSM will announce “a breakthrough in bioconversion.” This will improve the efficiency with which fuels can be made from “secondgeneration” sources – agricultural waste such as corn stalks and wheat straw, wood chips and energy crops grown on land that is unsuited to food production.
DUTCH QUESTION EURO V BENEFITS IN URBAN AREAS

Trucks and buses meeting Euro V pollution standards emit three times more NOx than they are supposed to in urban areas, according to a Dutch note citing a study released by research institute TNO in February. EU countries may struggle to meet air quality targets as a result, the note states.
BOLTBUS GOES GREEN TO CELEBRATE 40 YEARS OF EARTH DAY

In recognition of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, BoltBus has announced today that 40 cents from each ticket sold for travel between April 19 - 25 2010 during "Earth Week" will be donated in support of the environmental non-profit New York Restoration Project (NYRP). These limited-time tickets - dubbed "Green Fares" - reflect the company's commitment to providing passengers with an environmentally friendly way to travel this Earth Day and all year long.
