SECOND INDIAN PLANT FOR ASHOK LEYLAND IRIZAR

Ashok Leyland is gearing up to step up its fully-built buses' component to a higher level. Addressing a press conference after inaugurating the state-of-the-art Viralimalai facility of Irizar-TVS Limited, a three-way equal joint venture between TVS Sons Ltd., Ashok Leyland and Irizar of Spain, R. Seshasayee, Managing Director of Ashok Leyland, said 30 per cent of the buses sold by the company were built by itself at the moment. Ashok Leyland was keen to increase this percentage to 90 per cent over the next three years. During the next financial year, the company planned to take it up to 60 per cent, he said.

CHINA COACH BRANDS DOMINATE SINGAPORE PRIVATE BUS MARKET

More and more China-made buses are running on Singapore roads, with demand being fuelled by the so-called Integrated Resorts (IRs), a kind of large holiday centres, of which several are built already or under construction. The nine China bus brands active in Singapore, sold 148 units last year, or almost two-thirds of the total estimated 230 large private buses sold in Singapore in 2009.

The 1st Euro-Asian Bus and Coach Forum is jointly organised by the IRU, the United Federation of Travel Agents’ Associations (UFTAA), the Arab Union of Land Transport (AULT), and the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), in the framework of the largest regional bus and coach exhibition, Busworld Turkey. The working languages of the Forum will be English, Turkish, Arabic and Russian, with interpretation provided in all four languages.

MAJOR BUS ORDER FOR VOLVO IN MEXICO

Volvo Buses has secured an order for 323 coaches in Mexico. Most of these will be delivered in 2010. Mexico is a large country and, with poorly developed rail traffic, the coach is the most important means of transport for long journeys. For Volvo Buses, Mexico is one of the largest markets in the world.

FIFTEEN VOLVO COACHES FOR FARIDABAD

Volvo India supplied 15 coaches to the Faridabad Inter-City Bus Service one of which is flagged off here by Haryana Chief Minister Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda in the presence of Akash Passey, MD of Volvo Buses India Private Ltd and senior officials of the state. Under the City Bus Service Scheme (financed under Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission), 150 modern buses will be operated from Faridabad City. Out of these buses, 45 buses will be air-conditioned and remaining 105 buses will be Non AC. These buses are proposed to be extended up to Palwal, Delhi and Gurgaon.
