UTAH'S ENERGY DYNAMICS LABORATORY QUICKLY CHARGES ELECTRIC VEHICLE
Published at 15.07.2011 in Alternatives, Technology
Utah State University Research Foundation's Energy Dynamics Laboratory recently operated the first high-power, high-efficiency wireless power transfer system capable of transferring enough energy to quickly charge an electric vehicle. The lightweight, low-profile system demonstrated 90 percent electrical transfer efficiency of five kilowatts over an air gap of 10 inches. The demonstration at EDL's North Logan, Utah, facility further validates that electric vehicles can efficiently be charged with wireless technology.
FIRST CHINESE EURO 6 ENGINE
Published at 13.07.2011 in Components, Technology
The NYSE-listed China Yuchai International’s main operating subsidiary, Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company, has produced China's first domestically-developed prototype heavy duty diesel engine compliant with Euro VI emission standards. Test results for the engine, code named YC6L-60, which was jointly developed over four years by Guangxi Yuchai engineers and researchers from Tianjin University's National Key Laboratory of engine combustion, indicate that the NOx and particulate matter emissions of the YC6L-60 were well below Euro VI limits.
STURMAN CAMLESS ENGINE SET TO IGNITE NATURAL GAS ENGINES
Published at 12.07.2011 in Alternatives, Technology
The application of a fully flexible electro-hydraulic valve train (“camless” engine) designed and developed by Sturman Industries was the key enabler for achieving breakthrough thermal efficiencies while meeting the ultra-low emission requirements set by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). “The ability to meet low emission requirements at high efficiencies without a cumbersome and costly SCR system will be a game-changer for both the power generation and transportation sectors. In particular, this technology is a solution for California’s interest to utilise biomethane, also known as renewable natural gas (RNG),” reports Joe Vollmer, Director of Government Affairs for Sturman Industries. The report details peak efficiencies exceeding 40% and fuel consumption reduction up to 18%
BC TRANSIT'S HYDROGEN BUS FLEET IMPROVING
Published at 09.06.2011 in Alternatives, Technology
The 20 units strong fleet of BC Transit hydrogen buses has passed the one million kilometre mark after almost a year-and-a-half being in operation. While it had a bumpy start with frequently stalled buses it's now a rarity to see one stuck on the side of the highway. According to BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha, the performance of this fleet is much better at this moment than it was at the starts, he says in an interview in a Canadian magazine.
BRIDGESTONE SHOWS TPMS FOR TRUCKS AND BUSES
Published at 31.05.2011 in Components, Technology
At this year's eSafety Challenge, which was held in Vienna during late May and early June, Bridgestone Corp. presented and demonstrated two new tire pressure monitoring systems it has developed, one of them being meant for among others buses and coaches.
