THE EU WANTS VEHICLES TO WARN EACHOTHER FOR TRAFFIC PROBLEMS

The European Commission intends to make it possible for vehicles on the road to warn each other automatically for traffic jams and dangerous situations, like for example black ice. To enable this kind of smart communication between vehicles a part of the European wireless spectrum will be made available intentionally for this type of messages.

TWO METRO SYSTEMS TO BE INTEGRATED WITH BOGOTA TRANSMILENIO BRT

Luis Bernardo Villegas, Columbia’s transport secretary has announced that Bogota’s mass transport system, Transmilenio, will be enhanced with two urban train systems. They will both be connected to the Transmilenio BRT system and authorities are working on the logistics aspects of this integration.

ITERIS WINS CALIFORNIAN BRT PROJECT

As part of a multidisciplinary team, Iteris has been selected by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) to implement a real-time transit passenger information system and to develop the design for an advanced transit signal priority system for three Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors in Orange County, California. Work is expected to begin on the project immediately.

DUBLIN BUS DECIDED FOR AN ADVANCED ITS SYSTEM FROM INIT

Following Stockholm, Oslo and The Hague the Irish capital Dublin is yet another European metropolis that has decided in favour of INIT technology to manage its bus network. Dublin Bus, Dublin’s largest public transport provider, has opted for the introduction of a telematics system from INIT.

Scania, the Municipality of Södertälje, Stockholm Public Transport and Swebus have started a unique co-operative effort to build the urban transport system of the future. Reduced environmental impact, stronger customer orientation and intelligent solutions will increase the attractiveness of the city environment. The goal is to have a world-class urban transport system in place by 2011, based on the Scania Hybrid Concept Bus which was launched during the UITP- exhibition in Helsinki last year.
