SINGAPORE ORDERS 400 BUSES FROM SCANIA

SBS Transit, Singapore's leading public transport company, has ordered 400 Scania buses in addition to the 500 units ordered in 2007. The order is part of SBS Transit's on-going replacement of its fleet of 2,800 buses with vehicles featuring better environmental performance. The buses that Scania will now deliver are the first in the SBS fleet that will meet both Euro 5 and EEV standards.
MAN ABANDONS HYDROGEN
Bus manufacturer MAN is abandoning its hydrogen research to focus on developing its heavy duty diesels. It aims to increase injection pressures to 2,500 bar by 2013 and will improve vehicle aerodynamics and the efficiency of auxiliary systems. MAN has been working on hydrogen since the early 1990s, showing prototype citybuses fitted with these engines.
EUROPE TO HARMONISE HYDROGEN TECHNOLOGY

Early September 2008 the European Parliament adopted a legislative report that proposes to lay down harmonised type-approval for hydrogen-powered vehicles for the first time and speed up the introduction of hydrogen cars, vans, trucks and buses on roads throughout Europe.
PIRELLI DPF PILOT PROJECT LAUNCHED IN BEIJING
The Italian Ministery for the Environment has signed an agreement with the Municipality of Beijing to launch a pilot project in the Chinese capital to test particulate filter technology from Pirelli Eco Technology, a division of tire manufacturer Pirelli.
EATON REACHES AGREEMENT TO STRENGTHEN INNOVATIVE DEVELOPMENT IN CHINA
Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation has signed a memorandum of understanding with South China University of Technology (SCUT) to sponsor its research programs as well as foster Eaton’s technology advancement. She will collaborate with SCUT on the research and development of mechanical, electrical and, most importantly, transportation engineering, which focuses on Eaton’s industry-leading hybrid power systems for commercial vehicles.
