VOLVO BUSES: LOWER PROFIT OVER FOURTH QUARTER 2008

Volvo Buses recorded in the fourth quarter of 2008 an operating income of 72m Swedish crowns, compared with 93m over the same oeriod of 2007. According to the company, this lower profit resulted from the effect of currency exchange rates and continued high activity within research and development. Net sales in the period increased by 6% to 5,481m crowns (2007: 5,173 crowns); adjusted for changed exchange rates, net sales was up by 2%.

BUSWORLD: SAO PAULO POSTPONED TILL 2011 IN AN IMPROVED SCHEDULE

The first edition of the Brazilian Busworld exposition, first scheduled for June 2009 in Sao Paulo, has been postponed to the same month in 2011. Held for the first time in June 2010 will be a Russian Busworld exhibition. The introduction of this Russian event means that Busworld now is present in all BRIC countries – but also beyond.

  Scania has won a tender for the supply of 152 low-entry city buses to the northern Malaysian island state of Penang. The order marks the biggest single order for the company to date, and is one of the largest single city bus deals in Malaysia.

Proterra, manufacturer of clean commercial transit solutions from city transit buses to class 4-8 trucks, kicked-off its first ever California Clean Bus Tour in San Jose with the unveiling of its zero emission fast-charge battery electric bus. The EcoRide BE35 is designed to help communities significantly reduce air and noise pollution while cutting down vehicle operating costs, according to the manufacturer.
