ASHOK LEYLAND CO-OPERATES WITH BEIQI FOTO FOR DELHI BUS DEAL

According to a report in the Indian press Ashok Leyland has co-operated with the Chinese manufacturer Beiqi Foton during the development of the new low-floor CNG-powered buses for Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), which were ordered as part of this company’s fleet modernisation program.

CHINA SELLS 325,362 BUSES IN '08

The Chinese bus and coach manufacturers, including the manufacturers of minibuses achieved total bus sales of 325,362 units in 2008, a report compiled by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) showed, without giving comparative data.

CHINA YUCHAI SOLD 372,000 ENGINES IN 2008

China Yuchai International Limited, whose subsidiary Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company Limited ( also known as GYMCL) is a leading manufacturer and distributor of diesel engines in China, used among other by a large number of bus and coach manufacturers, recently announced total sales of approximately 372,000 diesel engine units for the year ended December 31, 2008.

BATTERY-POWERED BUSES TO HIT CHINESE ROADS IN JUNE 2009

Battery-powered buses that can cover 300 kilometers (188 miles) on one charge and recharge in 20 minutes will hit the road in China in June of this year, a researcher says. Seventy of the 24-passenger buses, powered by lithium-ion batteries, will be put to use in Jilin province in northeastern China, Xinhua reported recently.

RET ROTTERDAM TO TEST HYDROGEN BUSES

The Rotterdam public transport company RET will start this fall with a test to investigate the possibilities of using alternative fuels like hydrogen to power buses. A couple of buses fitted with fuel cells and electric engines as a drive line will be tested in practice.
