Published at 15.04.2010 in Company news, Heritage

Mauri Bus System, an Italian manufacturer of specialised buses and representative of a number of various bodybuilders on the Italian market, has been achtive eighty years as a body manufacturer. The company started in 1921, when Mr. Carlo Mauri began constructing sidecars for motorcycles, customized bodywork for cars and repairing motorcars.

In 1939 Mauri began to specialize in building bus bodies for the Mianese public transport company Azienda Tranviaria Milanese, today known as A.T.M. Azienda Trasporti Milano. Although this beginning was very profitable, it was interrupted in 1940, due to the second world war. But soon after the war, Carlo Mauri began to work again for the ATM again.

In 1966, Mauri launched the first Italian aluminium alloy body with the project 6.3, a body for citybuses. The first order came again from Milan, for the ATM f a number of our axle articulated buses on a Lancia 703-08 were rebuilt with an aluminium body. These vehicles stayed in service for some 30 years.

In 1973, Mauri built its first trolley on a Volvo B59 chassis, followed by an articulated trolleybus six years later. In 1988 Mauri began to co-operate with Neoplan. In 1994 Mauri launched as another Italian first a full-length low-floor citybus. Last development of Mauri in this field was the Kronos bus, with an integral stainless body, canbus electronics and aluminium panelling. The production was finally  transferred to the Czech manufacturer Tedom, fitting them among others with CNG engines. Nowadays Mauri concentrates on the production of special buses like 2,3 meter wide vehicles for the Alps region and is a representative for several foreign manufacturers on the Italian market under the name Mauri Bus Systems. One of the manufacturers they represent is Tedom.
