INDIA AND THAILAND ARE PLANNING CROSS ASIA LINK
During the recent North East India Investment Opportunities Week in the Thai capital of Bangkok between business leaders and officials from Northeast India and Thailand has seen roads emerge as a key issue as the meeting stressed the need for more connectivity between the two countries.
India's Minister for Development of North East Region (DONER), Mani Shankar Aiyar, sought help from Thailand in developing infrastructure facilities in the region.
He said the Central Government is spending billions of dollars in roads, railways, power in the region but its powers were limited and foreign help was needed. "In partnership with Thailand we will be able to develop absorptive capacity of the region," he added.
Thai Commerce Minister, Krirk -Krai Jirapaet, underlined Thailand's commitment to complete a trilateral road project with Myanmar, which would effectively link the two countries but conceded political uncertainty in Myanmar is delaying it. However, he added "ideally he would like to finish the project".
